MENTAL HEALTH Community Conversations event

Old Colony Memorial - 5/3/2017

PLYMOUTH — DMH Plymouth and the Plymouth School System are partnering to host a family-focused Community Conversations event from 6 to 8 p.m.June 7 at Plymouth South Middle School, 88 Long Pond Road.

The target audience is parents and families, school personnel, community providers and stakeholders with an investment in the mental health of youth in the community. Pizza and refreshments will be served. The event will include group discussions formatted to identify issues and potential solutions to youth mental health challenges in the community, a personal presentation by a local parent and a resource panel presentation.

Community Conversations are being launched in communities across the nation in an effort to reduce the shame and secrecy associated with mental illness, encourage people to seek help if they are struggling with mental health problems and encourage individuals to connect friends or family members to help when needed. They provide the opportunity for communities to assess how mental health problems affect their communities, to discuss topics related to mental health and to identify potential steps they may take to improve mental health in their families, schools and communities. This could include a range of possible steps to establish or improve prevention of mental illness, promotion of mental health, public education and awareness, early identification, treatment, crisis response and recovery supports available in their communities.
